1889 Kimball & Co. featuring English boxer Sam Blakelock on the front and the details for of a coupon redemption drawing for $2,000 each quarter by the William S. Kimball Co. Measures 6 5/8" x 9" with a smaller image of Blakelock. The back advertising promotion covers nearly the entire area with details on how to submit coupons into the drawing. A very scarce piece of which an internet search reveals little additional info. Blakelock had a short career, but was the British 128lb Champion for a short time. The same image as this ad piece is used for nearly all of his internet website photos, apparently images of him are very few. In all likelihood the advertisement on the back is of far greater importance to most 19th century sport or non-sport collectors, a promotion by Kimball in their heyday. The thin stock piece has some edge and corner wear but nothing of consequence, a small tack hole at the top. The back text is 100% intact and fully readable, having never been glued into an album, as have so many Victorian era items.
