Very scarce 1914 E & S Publishing Co. postcard of Christy Mathewson. Unused and very nice for the issue, no writing, tape, pinholes, glue, etc commonly found on collected postcards. PSA 6, one of only two graded at this level. While that might now sound very impressive, PSA has only graded one other, a 5, and SGC has only grade one in any grade, a 4. So out of the tens of thousands of prewar cards and postcards than have been graded, only four E & S Mathewson's have been holdered. The SGC card has sold both raw and holdered in 4 major auctions between 2005-2009. This particular example offered, last appeared in a 2007 Lew Lipset auction and was offered at that time as the nicest he had seen. With the recent explosion in the area if postcard collecting and prices, this would be a cornerstone of any early postcard collection.
