Very scarce circa 1910 postcard advertising the Matheson Silent six automobile, with a car load of celebrities, highlighted by Ty Cobb. One of two variations of the photo where the occupants change seats for another pose. Also in the automobile are famed racing legend Barney Oldfield, Davy Jones, Cobb's Detroit Tigers teammate and Roy A. Faye the Matheson Company's Boston Representative.

Of the three verified examples of this postcard, all are SGC graded, one 10, one 30 and this 50. The offered piece has not been postally used and shows only light contact to the corners. The image is quite crisp and brings out the details in the fine automobile and all of it's riders.

In the past several years both postcards and Ty Cobb cards of all genre's have really taken off in the collectors market. This particular postcard has not been offered for sale since 2008 when it last sold in a Lew Lipset auction. The opportunity to acquire scarce and desirable Cobb pieces is red hot, we urge all interested in acquiring quality/rare pieces to buckle down and pursue this postcard with the best of their abilities to add it to their collection while the chance presents itself. As an addendum, the other two known Matheson Silent Six postcards are in the collection of a very dedicated Ty Cobb collector and unlikely to present themselves to the market anytime soon.

We shall start the bidding with a minimal opener, giving everyone a chance to get in the running. The postcard is offered at No Reserve, as are ALL lots in this auction.
