A very nice 1/6th Plate tintype photo, approximately 2 1/2" x 3 1/4", of two young men in full Baseball attire taken in a local photographers studio, probably in the 1870's, in a full case. The player to the left leans on his bat, while the one on the right holds a ball in one hand and his cap in the other. As with most tintypes, there is no ID of these young men. The case has had the spine repaired as many of these 19th century leather case became quite brittle. The glass, mat and preserver all appear to be period to the piece. The availability of 19th century images with baseball players is quickly drying up, many of them are suspected of being ball players, but could be firemen or other occupational people in similar uniforms. This immaculate image leaves no doubt that in fact these two were ball players by the evidence of the bat and ball.
