Amazing 1 5/8" x 2 1/8" 1/16 plate tintype housed in it's orignal Potters mount patented in 1865. This particular mount and tintype plate was predominately used between 1865-1870, placing the time of it's taking in or about that period. The subject is T. S. Baker R. F. (right field) A. B. B. C. or possibly H. B. B. C. which would have been the initials of one of the various Base Ball Clubs of that era. The tintype itself is in marvelous condition, no bends, rusting, scratches or cleaning. The subject is adorned in uniform complete with cap and belted sash which have been colorized, as have his cheeks. We should also note the gold gilded buttons of his uniform top. He holds in his hands his ball and bat, which were probably his personal items, or the teams, and not studio props of the day. On the back, there is another set of initials and a last name which is not 100% legible. Below that appears to be 1 doz. and the price which may be 30 c. Tintypes of players with equipment are the most cherished of all. This one has it all going for it, given the condition, the equipment and the name, which may make further identification possible. We have provided 2 sets of scans to accent different background lighting.
