In 1910 the Chicago White Sox team took a train to Spring training, passing thru the Royal Gorge on February 27, 1910 when this classic image was taken. This oversize postcard measuring 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" was included in a "Ten Pictorial Post Cards" packet published by The Inter-State Co. entitled "Through The Royal Gorge, which included nine other shots of various landmarks and views from the Royal Gorge in addition to the Chicago White Sox. While the White Sox postcard shows up from time to time(and is quite popular), the entire packet appears to be quite scarce, as an internet search did not find one example, let alone intact with all ten postcards. The packet was mailed to Miss Alma Reid of Millgrove, Missouri on March 23, 1917 from Pagosa Springs, Colorado by Mrs. Martha Patton, a sister of Alma's. Only the card show addressed to Alma has any writing or soiling, the rest are clean with just a bit of touches to the corners. The packet while showing signs of handling is remarkably fresh and fully intact. A chance to acquire not only the White Sox post card, but the entire historical piece! Additionally the White Sox post card is in much nicer condition than normally encountered due to being housed in it's original packaging all these years.

As a postscript to this incredible piece and it's addressee, Alma Reid then thirty-two years old at the time of receiving this post card packet, died a few months later in July 1917, possibly sickly when the then fairly costly item was sent by her sister.
