The toughest of all 1909 Ramly Cigarettes cards, born out by the population reports and the spirited bidding when a card of Henry "Doc" Gessler makes an auction appearance. Gessler is shown in the set with the Boston Red Sox, a team he played with in 1908 and 1909. All of the Boston players in the Ramly set are tougher to find, since they were the local heroes and probably cherished and carried everywhere by the proud owners. Gessler is the toughest of all, with the lowest numbers of cards graded by both PSA and SGC. Mid grade examples have brought $3,000 to $5,000 in the past decade when one became available. The offered card has honest wear to the corners and surfaces, yet displays quite nicely with no major creases across the face or paper loss and a very nice image of Gessler. The SGC 35 grade accurately assesses this scarce card.
