1883 Baseball schedule produced by W. Scott Sanford of Providence, Rhode Island, Referee or Perfected Guide of the National League, American Association and College Base Ball Games. A thirty-six page booklet measuring 2 1/2" x 5 1/4", string bound at the top, with a page for each team of the National League and American Association to record the score of each game, as well as the college teams. There are pages for home and " a broad" games for Buffalo, Providence, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Detroit, Athletics, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Metropolitans, Alleghany, Eclipse, Baltimore and Columbus, as well as two pages for college games of Brown, Harvard, Yale, Amherst and Princeton. Also noted are the Umpires for both the National League and American Association. The first sixteen pages of score space are all neatly recorded as shown in the scans. The booklet itself is in very nice shape, one small cover stain and tiny edge tear mentioned for accuracy, the pages all very nice and still tied in nicely by the original string binding. Carries various advertisements for Providence area businesses as well. An internet search does not find this schedule/scorebook or anything like it from the era. A very, very early "pocket schedule"!
