1860's CDV of Albert Carpenter Stafford, Connecticut Civil War Soldier. This stock, square frame lines and no back stamp all point to an early 1860's date for this standard sized carte de visite photograph of a young man assumed to be going off to war sitting. Notes of the back and other research shows that Albert Carpenter of Stafford, Connecticut was born Jan 8 1842 to Seymour and Pheobe Carpenter. He enlisted in Company B of the 11th Connecticut Volunteers on October 24, 1861, reenlisting December 12, 1863. As of may 16 1864 he was taken a POW at the Battle of Drewry's Bluff, he died shortly thereafter on November 25, 1864 and is buried in Stafford Springs cemetery, Stafford, Connecticut. A piece of American history.
