Amazing CDV of an early day base ball player in Chicago, Illinois. ID'd on the mount as Francis P. Allaire, whom was still living in the Chicago area in 1880. The CDV while undated could have been taken no later than 1871 as Benjamin P. Higgins the photographer on 122 E. Van Buren St. lost all of the contents of his studio in the Great Fire of 1871 in October of that year. The CDV has a nice image of Allaire in his full uniform, the shield and piping on his unform, belt and cap have been colorized on the CDV as well, adding an even more unusual aspect to this very early baseball collectible. The CDV is in remarkable condition, no creasing or pinholes, additionally the adhered stamp advertising the photographer Higgins, is also quite unusual. While the team monogram is difficult to make out, he was probably a member of a town team, if so they were very well out fitted. Regardless of affiliation this would make a welcome addition to any collector of early baseball photographic images.
