1860's "The Empty Sleeve" CDV. Henry Meacham, of the 32nd Massachusetts Infantry with a young girl on his lap, holding the empty sleeve.
Meacham was a carriage maker when he enlisted in 1863 as a private in the 32nd Mass., and after being severely wounded in the right arm at Petersburg, Va., and subsequently amputated, he was discharged from service at Alexandria, Va. on August 25, 1864. Shortly after this the CDV was taken by photographer G. P. Christerson of Worcester, Massachusetts.
Meacham's life has been well documented and a book written about him as well, The Empty Sleeve: Or, the Life and Hardships of Henry H. Meacham, in the Union Army.
Another CDV that sees spirited bidding when offered. This one, crease free and full size.
